Music Academy Policy
We at Bay Area Harp & Music Academy strive to provide a welcoming, positive, and nurturing environment for students. We respect and recognize that each student has a unique personality and learning style that motivates and inspires them. Our quality of harp education allows them to become the harpist they desire - be it a classical soloist, orchestral harpist, or hobbyist. We believe that music education is an important part of the development of any person. Practicing a musical instrument teaches lessons beyond merely the ability to play. Scope of Study To become a well-rounded musician, it is essential that students be actively engaged in all facets of music including music theory, sight-reading, technique and performance. Composition, singing and other artistic activities are also encouraged. In addition, music takes discipline and motivation in order to succeed. Hours Mondays 2:00-8:30pm Tuesdays: 3:00-9:00pm Wednesdays: 2pm - 8pm Thursdays: 3:00-9:00pm Fridays: 3:00pm-8:00pm Saturday 11am - 5pm Sundays - tbd Tuition Please inquire for our current lesson rates Flat Rate Tuition based on 47 weeks Flat rate is for 3, 4 or 5 lessons per month Tuition is calculated based on 47 lessons & workshop weeks per calendar year, (allowing for the studio to have 3 weeks of studio vacation and National holiday) amounting to 5 lessons a year of vacation time. The annual amount is divided into twelve equal monthly payments for convenience. This means your monthly tuition will be the same each month whether you receive three, four, or five lessons in that month. Parental Role
The parental role in the development of their child’s music education is imperative. Practice should be monitored and instilled in a daily routine. We recommend a practice routine at the same time every day, making practice habitual. Music takes discipline and motivation in order to succeed, and both parents and teachers should instill these skills. Home Environment Please show your child how important his or her musical studies are to you and your family by surrounding your child with music. We will notify you of concerts, events, and musical activities in your area that might interest both you and your child. We would also be happy to recommend books and CDs. Let your child know how much you appreciate their work by encouraging them to perform for family and friends on a regular basis. Scheduled Lessons Your lesson time has been reserved for you with a mutual understanding that we will have lessons at the same day and time each week. When students enroll, they are reserving a space in the studio and in their instructor’s schedule. If a scheduling conflict arises, please feel free to speak with us and we will be happy to work with you to find a time that will work best for everyone. |
Tuition is due on the first of the month. A $20 late fee will be charged on the 7th of the month for all payments remitted after the first week of each month. If payment has not been made by the 15th of the month, lessons will be suspended without make-up lessons until payment is received. We are in the process of automating our billing and class schedule to My Music Staff. Once we are up and running, all payments will be made via credit card through our secure My Music Staff Web Portal.

Holidays
We are closed and will not hold lessons on the following National Holidays: Winter break (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day), Martin Luther King, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (4th of July), Labor Day, and Thanksgiving break (Wednesday-Sunday).
Studio Vacation
The Studio will be closed one week each summer - the exact week to be announced by late spring - and for two weeks that contain Christmas and New Year’s Day. There will be no make-ups scheduled for these weeks because there has been no charge for them; again, tuition is based on 47 lesson & workshop weeks per year.
Studio Make-Up Workshops
During the last week the studio is open before Christmas Break - and once a month in June, July and August - the studio hosts a series of group workshops. These workshops cover music theory, technique, performance practice, guest teachers, and more to help inspire students to grow. Workshops are 60 minutes to 90 minutes. These workshops are available for students to use as make-up lesson and are included in tuition as part of our 47 weeks of classes.
Cancellation and Make-Up Policy
Cancellation by an instructor: Your instructor will make-up for the missed lesson. If a make-up is not possible, the missed lesson will be credited towards your next month’s tuition.
Cancellation by a student/parent:
48-Hour Cancellation Notice
If a student cancels a lesson with a 48 hour notice, they will receive a lesson credit. Credits can be used by finding an open lesson time on the calendar using MyMusicStaff. Credits expire after 60 days of the missed lesson. If you are unable to find a lesson time to fill your credit, you may use the studio make-up workshops that are scheduled in December, June, July and August. Regardless of needing make-up credit, we encourage you to participate in our Workshops. Also keep in mind, the flat monthly tuition rate listed in the studio policy accounts for 5 weeks a year, which takes into account some months will have as few as three lessons. Tuition is the same every month.
Less than 48-Hour Cancellation Notice
If a student cancels a lesson with less than a 48-hour notice, no make-up credit will be given for the missed lesson. Regardless of the reason your student cancels - sickness, school project, etc - you will not be given a make-up credit through MyMusicStaff. However, you may take advantage of as many Workshop classes we offer in December, June, July, and August. There is always an opportunity to make-up and learn from these Workshops.
Leave of Absence or Discontinuance
If a student will be absent for more than three weeks at a time, they will lose their reserved spot in the calendar and will not be guaranteed the same lesson time slot with his/her instructor upon return UNLESS you continue to pay the monthly tuition. We have many families that choose to take a month-long vacation each year, but want to keep their students' lesson time for when they return. We operate as a year-round music school, and rely on our monthly income to operate. In order to keep your student’s lesson day/time/teacher, we ask you to continue your monthly payments in good-faith. A make-up credit can be assigned to your students account upon your return, but can only be used if make-up lessons are available. Workshops are a great way to get more out of your tuition and missed-lessons.
